Instructions Following the Removal of Teeth

  1. Immediately upon your return home, place an ice bag on the area.  Leave in place for one hour, then alternate ½ hour on, ½ hour off for 4-5 hours.  Repeat this procedure again tomorrow.

  2. Bite on gauze for one hour.  Repeat for another ½ hour if the wound continues to bleed.

  3. Do Not Rinse Your mouth and No Smoking for 24 Hours.  Tomorrow the area can be rinsed gently with warm salt water.  (½ tsp. salt in 8oz. Of warm water) Repeat 3 times daily for 1 week.

  4. Stay on a soft diet today, and avoid the area of surgery.

  5. Some discomfort and swelling is to be expected.  In case of extreme pain or swelling, however, contact our office at (716)675-6900.

  6. Be sure to eat when you are no longer numb.  Low blood sugar from not eating can lead to high levels of pain perception.

  7. For Pain:  Take your pain medication prior to Novocain wearing off.
